Ingredients

  • 10.5 oz 5% fat beef mince
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 bell pepper chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 4 tsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sriracha
  • 2 tsp tomato puree
  • 4 tsp honey
  • 1.5 cups cooked rice
  • sliced spring onion optional topping
  • sesame seeds optional topping

Equipment

  • Large pan or wok
  • Small mixing bowl

Method

  1. Chop the onion, bell pepper, and garlic.
  2. Heat a pan over medium heat and cook the onion and bell pepper for 1-2 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the beef mince to the pan and cook, stirring, until the liquid evaporates and the beef is browned.
  4. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, sriracha, tomato puree, honey, and a splash of water. Mix well.
  5. Pour the sauce into the pan with the beef and cook until the mixture thickens.
  6. Stir in the cooked rice and mix well until evenly coated and heated through.
  7. Top with spring onions and sesame seeds for garnish and serve immediately.

Notes

Customize spice level by adjusting sriracha amount. Can substitute beef mince with chicken or tofu. Use any oil with high smoke point for cooking. Don't let beef sit in sauce too long to maintain texture.
